A Pandemic World 2020

It is crazy to think that 102 years ago,

the Spanish Flu hit the world hard.

They say it that an estimated 20 to 50 Million people died.

I pray that we have learned from that flu
and
 we can overcome this pandemic.

Those numbers would have taken out all of Canada
 since
we only have 38 million people right now!

Today's count for Canada was 3000 confirmed
and
28 dead.

Let's hope we can keep this quarantine going to stop the spread.

When living in a province with 1 million people

in 252,000 square miles,

it's not that hard to self isolate!

Add in calving season,

where you stay home to watch cows

  for a straight month

'Dolly and Daisy'

It starts to feel like any other day.

At least two of the Holstiens have calved
so
we will have lots of milk and cream!

We are on the final countdown....

only have 13 cows left to calve!

My parents have a few more days left of quarantine
after
returning home from their snowbird winter.

I didn't realize how much I missed them,

till I couldn't give them big hug!

One more week.

We got them reconnected to the world with internet and tv.

Fully stocked with food with random drop-offs of food and Timmies

Mom warmed it up hotter than at the drive thru window!!

Mom also had her 70th birthday on Monday
but
we will have to celebrate later when this virus settles down!

Fresh hot cinnamon buns had to substitute!

For now,

we are all focusing on staying safe and healthy.

Who ever thought we would see the rate of hoarding that has been going on!

Weyburn Walmart...that must be the last resort toilet paper!

As a farmer, we have always been well stocked up on food.

We certainly won't starve.

May need to go Keto with all the beef, chicken and pork on hand!

Many of my quilting friends are actually enjoying quarantine time.

This is what quilters have been waiting for.

Time to be in their sewing room for hours on end.

Gudrun Erla of GE Designs had a Quarantine Quiltalong
on
 Facebook on the weekend.

I informed my family as to where I will be.

See you later, alligator!

The Elvira Quilt....

was finished.

Two of my friends also made quilts,

along with 10,000 quilters around the world.

If you search #Elviraquilt or #quarantinequiltalong

you will see some incredible quilts!

It feels like the world needed a reset

Life has been so crazy busy.

People have begun to bake, cook and get their lives organized again.

My sister said she has all the ingredients to make bread....

Now to watch a few vidoes and try it!

It has given us a chance to really think about where our lives are going
 and
what we really want from life.

Financially,

it will be very difficult for many with all the lay offs.

The Oilfield has nearly come to a standstill with such low prices.

Arnolds company has reduced everyone to half days to reduce the amount of people in the building.

Jeremy has been laid off as there is very little drilling going on,
and
in turn, Chantel hasn't been too busy with line locating.

As farmers.
the harvest season did not end favourable
 with
so much rain and a lot of crops left out in the field.

There will be a lot of cleanup and ruts to be dealt with
before
 2020 crop can be planted.

Justin works at Saskatchewan Crop Insurance so he has been plenty busy.

I hope that everyone can weather the storm
and
come out the other side of this healthy and happy.

Stay safe our there!

Feathers

This painting has been something I have been wanting to make for some time.

It's been hanging in my sewing room for awhile now.

Recently, I purchased some new batiks to sell

but

I couldn't resist trying some things with some of it!!

I started with these two Hand Painted Batiks by Robert Kaufman.

The first one is called Jewel

and

this one is Sea Glass

The pattern is  called Aviary
by
Madi Hastings

I loved the first one!

And you know me...

Why do one??

The second is just as nice!

These are LARGE feathers.

They are 90" x 23"!!

I just might have to make two more with these two!!

These are called Pool and Bluegrass

They are so gorgeous!!

I can't wait to get them on the long arm!

I played around with some flying geese with scraps
 to
see what they lines would do.

You can only imagine the orphan blocks in my possession!

An Evening with the Prairie PieceMakers

The Regina Guild, Prairie Piecemakers,

invited

Terry Whitman to do a trunk show of her amazing quilting

I tagged along to keep her company!

Seriously, this girl should be quilting for the designers

but

despite my push she remains local.

Her quilting is that stunning!

With the help of these two Vannas..

Shelby Love and Tannis Fahlman to hold the quilts up,

The show began!

My pictures can't get the grasp of her quilting
but
even her quilts are incredible!

This one is a favorite of mine
as
it features two of the backings I sell!

Love the movement!

These tea cloths show her fabulous quilting much better!

These were Terry's grandma's tea cloths

Terry wanted to showcase her grandma's embroidery with some of her quilting

I think they accentuate each others skill!

Heirloom pieces for sure!

Tannis Fahlman has a Mystery quilt going in their guild again

For those of you who don't know her.....

Tannis made this pattern for Jelly Roll Jazz

I loved doing this quilt!

This is her new Mystery....

In a few versions...

Then it was time for some guild show and tell!

I must apoligize as I didn't get names of the quilters.

One block wonder...

Hunter Star...

Four Patch Posie...

Kalidescope...

with a cool backing....

I always love a surprise!

Doesn't it always seem like after you are done one quilt...

There is always enough to do one or two more.

Some long pillows...

Love the Canada one!

This lady was too fast in showing her bags from some classes
 at
The Peachtree Quilt Shop

But you can rest assured I found the name of the patterns
and
you will see some of these here in the future!

This was one of their new members.

He was showing his second quilt!

Every woman was inpressed with his points and colors.

It was fun to run into a local Torquay girl, Stacey Lowe
at
the meeting!
She recently moved to Regina
and
was surprised that we were also at the meeting!

This is a new row robin starting on Canadian quilter.com

Just click the HERE to down load each row

They are only posted for so long so don't miss out!

It's free!

All in all it was a fun and fast night.

However....

I do need to vent
(after all it's MY blog)

Terry and I stopped at Starbucks on the way home for a drink.

The lot was nearly empty at 9pm.

We parked in one of these spots.

Had never seen these signs before.

Good on Starbucks.

Starbucks wants to start getting new customers at an early age.

It's the new McDonalds.

We considered moving
but
the parking lot was empty and we would be quick.

There was a young couple and baby standing behind their car looking at us.

She asked why we parked there? We wouldn't park in Handicap!

Ordinarily.......I would have walked away.

Not sure if it's because I am fifty now or what...

Things escalated from there.

Terry ran to move the car,

as I yelled at her to leave it...we will only be a few minutes,

as this chicko continued to chew me out.

Seriously...

FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS... people!

It's 9pm...your kids should be home in bed.

Where is the "OLD LADY WTH BAD KNEES' sign???

I walked from 'timbuck two' with little kids.

There was no 'pregnancy' parking.

We survived.

WHY is there such a sense of entitlement in people these days??

Is it just me??

I nearly had to call my friends, Shelby or Bonnie for legal assistance!

I was not backing down!

Still makes me mad.

After an evening with the PIECEMAKERS!
(irony)

I better go quilt something....

I need some therapy.
