Paula Jolly at Shurniak Art Gallery

It was a great day for a road trip!

Lori, Mom and I hit the road!

We heard about Paula Jolly having an exhibit

At
The Shurniak Art Gallery

In
Assiniboia,Saskatchewan.

Paula lives in Mossbank, Saskatchewan
and
is a Fabric Artist.

The gallery has a cafe called Fresh Start

We started with a delicious lunch
of
hamburger soup and chicken panini

We waited for Paula to give us a private tour!

Paula repurposes clothing by cutting them up

Layering and stitching

Colouring with shiva sticks and paint

Till she achieves the look she wants

Paula has a fabulous eye for colour

Lines and design

Her stitching was tiny and intense

As I always say...

Every quilt has a story
and
we were there to hear it!

Paula was inspiring with her love of colour
and
how much she loved making her art!

This was Paula's first gallery showing
and
I was so glad to hear she has had a great turn out even in these covid times!

We had lots of laughs about our obsession of fabrics.

As quilters, we recognized some of the fabrics as grunge

But as a Art quilter, Paula just knew it was the colour that worked!

I loved her explanations of how she came up with names for each item.

Like this one....
Part of this was a scarf and when she was ironing it all together,

She ended up melting some of the fabric.

She thought she had ruined it!

But then she thought she had nothing to lose....
She melted it some more!

She ended up calling it "Ironworks"

Thank you for the private tour!

It was a great day!

Hop in the car and go for a road trip!

Shurniak Art Gallery is an incredible treasure in small town Saskatchewan.

Bill Shurniak passed away this summer.

He will be missed as he gave a lot of budding Canadian artists
a
chance to show their fabulous works.
