Maybe you've heard....

or

even watched our first facebook live video....

One month ago,

with the help of Emma Avery of Cavindew Quilting

in

Australia

I ordered my first box of batiks fabrics from a shop we visited 3 years ago.

Here is some of the yumminess this box contained!!

A beautiful mix of fat quarter packs with 10 in each

I should have counted how many prints I ordered

It was quite a few!

Quite a variety

Greens

Browns

Oranges

Purples

Lots of blues

of course!

Loved the sunflowers in every colorway

I love batiks for paper piecing

There is no wrong side!

They are 44" wide yardage

The colors are so vibrant

They can be checked out on the website!

Are you a batik lover?

What's your favorite thing to do with Batiks?

It’s a Heat Wave

Frosty mornings are always a good sign...

Usually means it's warming up!!

I will take it!

Sure makes calving season alot easier!

Charlie and his mom are doing incredibly well!!

The C section is healing quite well!

His mom is still not liking him
but
we put her in and let him drink a couple times a day!

He had learned she can't kick as hard if he drinks from behind!

He is also getting a little extra

from
this little white guy's mom since she has way too much!

I haven't had a whole lot of sewing time
as
these new calves have been very high maintenance.

I announced to everyone(the cows)
that
it is 'sipping sunday' so try to not need me!!

I started on my Apple Core quilt.

These were apple scraps from two of my quilting cohorts.

I put this Steampunk by Windham on the back.

I always like a surprise on the back!

An Apple core quilt was never in my radar
but
now I can check that box!!

Speaking of a box.....

My fabric I ordered for my shop has arrived from BALI!!!

Three years ago,

Twenty three of my quilter friends and I went on a trip of a lifetime.

It was a dream crafting tour put together by Jodi Hartnell.

We were put up like royalty in hotels you only dream about.

Since that trip,

I have dreamed about getting some more batik from one of my favorite shops there.

As I always say....

Careful what you wish for as I found a way to get some to Canada!!

Thank you to  Emma Avery of Cavindew Quilt Shop
in Australia
for all your help!!

You made it happen!

This box was packed and shipped over 9000 miles

We will do an unboxing video on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7:30pm (Central time)
 on
Facebook
at
 @Secondstoryquilting

You might want to attend just to have a few laughs
as
I am sure it's going to be comical!

It will be posted to my website for sale after that!

You can visit my website HERE

Have patience grasshopper...

This is a whole new experience for me!!

I am learning as fast as I can!

February Calving Had Begun!

It's been a week that's for sure....

First the water heater went.....

THEN

Our relatively new furnace stopped working in -37C weather.

Two days of chilling in the house...gave that a whole new meaning!

THEN

The sewer froze up...

We figured we were good to go now.

We knew that February 14 was going to be the earliest
that
we would have any calves.

Right on schedule!

We have cameras so monitoring is simple!

We watch this new mom to be for quite awhile.

She was a heifer and was very uncomfortable.

We finally went in to see what the hold up was...

The calf was backwards AND upside down with both feet down.

I managed to get the legs out
but
there was no way we could pull him out.

She was loaded up and off to the vet.

The vet performed C Section
and
this little tyke was alive and well

After a couple of day in the heated garage

Charlie is well on a bottle...

Today is is his first day in the barn!!

He was bucking and kicking!

I think he's going to be ok.

The marathon has begun...

Cutting into my quilting time!!

If you are looking for some quality quilting content these days...

I have subscribed

Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson for a few years now.

It's an online subscription and has designers and quilters of all kinds.

They have a BOM every year for members.

This year is Wendy Williams of Australia

She goes by @flyingfishdesigns on Instagram

I have participated in the past years.

Sedona Star was one year....

But if you know me....

I had to do it in Blues and Browns.

It was a fun one to do...

I still love that quilt!

This one is also in the round...

If it has a compass in it...it gets me every time!

Month one...

I am trying to get out of my comfort zone... going with some greens!

Month two is paper pieced houses using freezer paper

Works pretty slick....

but my first house looks haunted

After auditioning some other window and door options...

I was well on my way!

I am going for a secondary design in the finally quilt
so
this is much more planned that the original quilt!

The tutorials and videos are excellent.

I am almost ready for month three..

Couple more houses to build...
