The Diwali Festival...in Weyburn??

Remember Dr. Patel?

My vet who was over to do some pregnancy testing this week?

Well, Dr. Patel invited us to come to the Diwali festival!!

Who knew???

In Weyburn, Saskatchewan?

This was the SECOND Diwali Festival held in Weyburn.

Diwali means festival of lights and usually involves lots of fireworks but the weather was not cooperative!

So there were lots of candles!!

This is Dr. Patel with his family.

We are used to seeing each other in 'farm clothes' so we did not even recognize each other!!

Sandip has a beautiful family

Just as promised...there were games

Have you ever seen a bingo card like this?

We laughed so hard as they call the numbers so fast and we had a little language barrier issue.

Thank goodness, there were only 15 numbers to keep track of!!

There was great food... all the taste of India!!!

Jasmine rice, Samosas,Butter Chicken, Chutney, Vindaloo and Naan!!

There was dancing...

......alot of dancing!

They got everyone up including Jaynie and I who really preferred to be wallpaper in the room!!

(It's true.. white men can't jump... or dance)

 Incredible color and beautiful dresses!!

The spice of life is definitely captured in this culture!!

It's a changing world and it was great to be so welcomed to participate in their celebration.

Sure makes our life seem pretty colorless with all this snow.

I think I need to throw a quilt out on the deck!!

More Retreat Treats

The cows are all home and the feeding has begun...

The preg testing was completed thanks to Dr. Hoium and Dr. Patel.

This is the less glamorous part of being a vet...

But someone has to do it!!

So let the quilting begin!!

We each received a present at retreat from the Heart and Hands Guild.

Great things come in small packages!!

I will have to make sure I get this done for next year.

My purchases at our vendor, Shirley's Sewing Room  from Moosomin,Saskatchewan...

were a couple of yards of StoneHenge and  a Christmas FQ pack.....

And this little treat!!

I stopped at Shirley's this summer to see if she had the Texas Star pattern.

She didn't then... but she does now!!!

I saw it on the back of a magazine a year ago and LOVED it!!

It was karma and had to come home with me.

I am going to make it with Stone Chips Warm/Cool.

Then that little pole dancer, Bev from Sew and Sews in Carlyle stopped in for a minute.

She had a few extra kits of the project they did this weekend so I purchased one also.

Love the colors and prints in this runner.

So bring on the Christmas tunes, and the snow they are calling for today!!

I am ready!!

And this 'not-so-little-anymore' frontman, Duracell???

I opened the door to let him in and 5 little kittens blasted in right behind him!!

It was a set up...should have known...that's alot of tracks for one cat!

You can never trust a cute face!

Going to sew!!

Kenosee Retreat Show and Tell

Yeesh... the mud!!

I brought the last pasture of cows home yesterday.

My poor truck and trailer are a mess.

But finished before the wind picked up and the skies looked like this!!

On a cleaner note...

Here is Anne with a couple of her bags.

I love the little pinwheels on the bottom of this one.

Betty with her yellow and blacks...

Colleen W did an amazing job on the stitching of the christmas scenes

Colleen M completed her batiks quilt

Colleen is good at hiding behind her quilts!!

This one is for christmas......

This is Eileen...sporting her new apron...

otherwise known as the 'guidance councillor' for the Wednesday Girls!!

Marg, Carlin(two of the Wed. Girls) and Eileen

Heather made this great quilt carrier which she entered and won a prize at Sew and Sews this year!

She also completed one of the past year's mysteries.

Irene did a great job regardless of the mistakes in the pattern!!

Lillian...also hiding behind her quilt....

with her scrap apple quilt in my favorite color...

purple!!

Marg with her grand daughter's quilt.

Marg will be running the retreat next year as Colleen is looking to move.

Linda with her card tricks...

Lori showed us how easy it was to make these receiving blankets.

Those cute tootsies belong to Lori!!

Carlin did an amazing job on this spinning stars quilt.

and more stars!!

Shelby 'borrowed' a show and tell

to show our favorite longarmer, Terry how she would like the quilting on her cottage quilt!

And Shelby...

the cookies are scrumptious and saved the day while hauling cows!!

Shirley finished this quilt she worked on last year at retreat.

Gail, one of the Regina quilters brought this handy row marker booklet.

Using flower head pins, mark the row(A,B,C..) and number(1-10)
on the head of the each pin.

Each 'page' of the booklet has a set of row pins marked 1-10.

Then when you lay out your quilt,
pin each block with its coordinating pin(row A,block 1) to make assembly of the blocks a breeze!!

Great tip, Gail!!

Hope to see everyone at retreat next year!!

Hearts and Hand Retreat

It was the Heart and Hands Quilt Guild Retreat at Kenosee Lake, Saskatchewan this weekend.

Terry Whitman and I think it is our 6th year attending.

It was a great weekend to be inside.

Look at Lori's cute toes all ready to get the quilting started!!

And would you believe......

It's Linda and Betty.....

Mary was missing(and missed) in action.

Betty had great news... she was recently engaged!!!

Congrats, we are super happy for you!!

It looks a little like a sweat shop but these girls were all having alot of fun!

Betty, Terry, Linda, and Shirley

Shirley from Shirley's Sewing Room  in Moosomin was the guest vendor.

We did our best to help her pedal her wares so she did not have so much to haul home!!

It was not long before there were  finished projects on the walls.

Christmas is coming!!

Loved this Black and White Quilt

Even the flower on this bag was made this weekend!!

Table runners to

To winter wallhangings.

The Carlyle girls were also having a retreat at Kenosee Camp so we went over for a visit.

This is where our retreat is in February, 2013.

This was their Ring leader, Bev

from Sew and Sews Quilt Store in Carlyle, Saskatchewan.

She was all dressed up for their murder mystery/retreat.

I am pretty sure the pole dancer did it!!!

My cheeks can finally rest from all the laughter.

giggle..
