First Day of Winter

To celebrate the first day of Winter....

I thought I would start a new sunny and bright project!

My girlfriend said who starts a project like THIS only a few days before Christmas?!?!?

Yup...only me.

I purchased this pattern in Houston

Infinity by Jacqueline de Jong

I had a good laugh
when I saw the pattern name while cutting out the all the pieces.

Might be an Infinity before this one gets finished

I have been hoarding my Latitude by Kate Spain
but
I think this is the quilt for it!

I started with an easy star....

Let's see where this will take me....

Christmas presents

I purchased the shortcut sheets for fast ways
to do things like
flying geese and hunter star block

They were purchased at www.kitsbycarla.com

Finally got a chance to try them....

I need some flying geese for my 'presents'

I started with the strips it calls for sewing them together ...

It suggests you press seams open

These are cut into strips and resewn staggered

Then you cut them apart in strips

And the strips into individual geese

It made quite a stack of geese!

Which are now my bows on these presents

I used up all the little Sweetwater scraps off my cutting table

Even quilted up this table mat and gifted it on the weekend!!

I need to try this method again before I can fully give a review!

It was a totally different way of do flying geese

and

they were very straight since they were all sewn in strips.

Always some thing new out there!

Painting Up the Town

There was a fundraiser in Midale, Sk last night
My daughter, Chantel asked me to come.

What the heck....lets give it a try!

This is the original...

We started with fresh paint and canvas.

The instructor, Jamie had a few tips.

1- Get your drink on...instead of your think on!!!

2- Don't compare yourself to anyone else

3- If it looks like your neighbour is a professional painter....
Maybe scoot over!

Yup....professional painter in the midst ...

Brenda Blackburn
a.k.a
Favorite teacher, fellow organic farmer, daughter of the famous painter, Margaret Delainey

We didn't move...we kept a firm grip on th brush and hoped for the best!!
We started with our background

Everyone was looking on par....except BRENDA!!

Very Van Gough...starry nights...love it!!

Next we added trees and some snowflakes
Chantel's rendition....
Brenda's trees....

Added some snow to the trees and a string of lights....

Brenda's...
Chantel's...added the lights
Maryann's...She plans to add some bunnies...
I didn't like the lights so I added a fence line on mine
It was a fun TWO hours!!
Amazing what we accomplished!!
Back row-Maryann, Chantel, Kat,Shayna,me
Front- Brenda, Monique

Thanks for the fun, everyone!!

Quilting Christmas Party

Show and tell was awesome!!!

Narrie made a few set of doll clothes for her grand daughter

Talented in sewing, knitting AND crochet!!!

Crazy how cute these are!!

Colleen embroidered a beautiful tree skirt

Metallic snowflakes

Lori made a bunch of reindeer pillows

Colleen also made this cute peek a boo teepee quilt for a foster child in the family

If that wasn't fabulous enough.....

It was gift exchange!!

The only rule was 'homemade'

These girls are so darn talented

Narrie made Maryann a doily and owl potholder

Jane painted a picture for Theresa

Lori made a mini quilt for Terry

Look how tiny these flower buttons are!!!!!

Maryann made Narrie some pot holders with tiny prairie points

So creative....'Whisking' her a Merry Christmas

Theresa made me a lighted ornament with plastic cups and blue lights

Looks pretty cool all lit up!

Charlene made Jane some popcorn and wash clothes

Colleen knows Lori so well...

She embroidered tea towels for each day of the week

In the Glamping style to go in her motor home in Mesa this winter

Terry made Colleen a ladder for her quilts

Vernelle painted a sled for Charlene

So cute!!

Incredible work everyone!!!

Thanks for all the fun!

Expedition Bag

There was one booth at Quilt Market I absolutely loved

It was Tim Holtz booth

His wideback fabrics were so pretty and super soft.

Finally I went and ordered a bolt of each....

They worked out to be the same price as my other backings...60$ for 110"x108"
These backs are 100% cotton with a chintz finish
I wish there was feel-o vision on the internet.

It is the silkiest softest cotton you've ever felt.
I brought some to quilting the other day and ever persons reaction was the same....

Oooooooh....that is so soft!

I can see this fabric in a few of my projects as backgrounds!!

I also loved his other fabrics.

I love maps and postmarks.

This bag was a limited edition kit.

I had to have it.
It finally came last week!!

I dove right in!!!

It came with the fabric, zippers, thread and hardware

Other than I got the middle panel UPSIDE DOWN

I love the finished product!!

I may have to make this out of some of his other fabrics!

Yup...I had to get a FQ pack.

Let's just say...

Santa wanted me to have it!!
