Market day 2

My first class was with Marti Mitchell

She was teaching us how to use her rulers for fast log cabin quilts

How to add movement by using different size logs

Playing with colour placement

Keeping it monochromatic

Using solid inserts with log cabin blocks

She had great techniques on layering your fabric

She suggested to always cut selvage edge rather than WOF edge

That side has less give and will result in truer cuts

Her technique allows you to cut, layer and take to the machine to sew!

I was very impressed with her knowledge

My favorite blocks were the pineapple blocks

This was a very informative and enjoyable!

Great start to the fun!!

Happy Halloween...eat some good Canadian Chocolate for me today!!

Going to have to raid Charlene's stash today!!

Houston

We made it safe and sound to Houston.  Met up with a my neighbour Glen Forester in the airport and he was kind enough to take our pic!! My eyes are closed but the girls look good!! Can't get the right one to load!!

We presumed our luggage had all been loaded since the cart was empty and in its chalk line

But Charlene and I discovered ours was missing

Only to discover it had taken an earlier flight and was in a pile in the corner....Yah!!

We headed to the Convention Center to register and tease ourselves in the windows of the show floor

Our first event was sample spree which was like Black Friday on steroids!!
This is where we stood for 1 1/2 hours in line before the doors opened!!
I managed to escape with just a half a bag...ok...I know it's a big bag but half!!

I'll show you at home, it was a long day. Up at three am and to bed at eleven pm!!

Ready for day two

Then you see a blast of colour and your drawn in to Jacque De Jonge's fabulous work

Quiltworx

Their theme was red, black and white this year
. Stunning

Had to get a pic of this Storm at Sea with a Snail Trail

Inspiration for Maryann and I as we are taking a class from John Flynn on that!!

The creativity in decorating the booths is incredible

Look at the bolts of fabric at the mannequins feet

This year I got to meet KATE SPAIN

My all time favorite!!!

She even gave me a layer cake of Early Bird, her newest release

I think I will just frame it.

I invited her to come to Bali in 2017.

I can only imagine the fabric she would come up from that trip!!

Super cute buttons!

Sent a fair amount of time in Tim Holtz booth

Eclectic Elements

I think I went back 6 times

I finally broke and purchased 4 bolts of his wide back cotton

The most luscious and silky cotton you have ever felt!

You're going to love it!!

We ended the evening by having supper with anothe new friend

Her name is Hekva

She is from Israel and came with 2 friends.

Pretty sure we scared off the other two.

But Joy(meaning of Hekva) was such a lot of fun.

There were quite a few language barrier moments but boy did we have some laughs!!

Can you imagine...
6 Canadian chicks...tell yah...follow me....
We are going to your hotel to eat...we're are you staying??

We went to the Hyatt and shared the evening

The things we learned about Israel!!

Joy told us how one of her sons moved to Japan and married a girl there.

Terrry thought she said he was murdered there

Terry had the look of horror and Joy said ...what?. If he's happy I am ok with it.

We all laughed when that was cleared up!!

Good Times....
