How to Build a Snowman

A friend recently showed us 

an adorable snowman she made with her embroidery machine

It is called free standing lace.

I thought I would give it a try.

After all, I haven't done a whole lot with my new Bernina 770QE

Why start with something easy??

Let's just dive right in!!

I started with the hat.

I figured if that's all I ended up with,

 I could at least set it on a doily 

and

say the rest of him melted!!

The panels for each section took quite some time...

How do you get a nice pointy nose??

 By sticking it in the pencil sharpener!!

Thankfully it all worked out!!

He had gone to his new home for Christmas!!

I know he is loved!

Burning Up The Thread

I have to say I am LOVING my  new Bernina 770

I always said I never had an urge to do any embroidery...ever...

But when the embroidery unit came free with it,

I figured what the heck....

In the first 4 days I had already sewn up 3 sets of dishclothes

 

 A couple of stockings for some family members 

who were spending Christmas with us!!

 

I have been having a ton of fun trying different threads

And the design possibilities.... 

That in itself is a whole new addiction!!

I may need a psychiatrist by the end of this one!!!

I have some fabulous variegated threads and love this elephant design...

It was my first attempt...

I love how it turned out!!

Next was this horse.....

What will I do with these you say....

I REALLY don't know...

But I love it and it makes me happy......PERIOD

Isn't that what life is all about??

Going to look for some more critters...

Santa Came Early

Don't you just love the man in red...so thoughtful!!

He knew I would like to finish some gifts before Christmas

Take two HUGE boxes....

 Unpack them in the kitchen....

Why not the sewing room?? You all know!! 

 I have been looking for a new machine for a while now. 

I have been a Pfaff girl for 33 years but they just don't seem to be what they used to be.

I love the drop down walking foot which the Bernina now has.

I also love the fact that it is a metal well made machine.

I jumped right in to trialing this puppy! 

I was commissioned to make 5 quilts from a loved ones clothing who passed away .

These are the five of them...

 

I love Susies magic binding...

adds a bit of color to the binding...

 

 Each one is different and unique.

She loved them and they are ready for Christmas,

My next task was to haul this beast of a machine UP to the sewing room.

I forced myself to address this disaster....

 It always looks worse than it is 

and 

sure feels good to get some control again!!

 The Bernina 770 QE came with the embroidery unit as a Black Friday Sale.

Of course, I dove right in!

I didn't think I would ever do machine embroidery

but

I found out I LOVE it!! 

 . Like I need another addiction...seriously....

The possibilities are endless....

With a clean slate...

I could be down right dangerous!
