Baltimore Autumn...Take 2

I have loved this pattern for a long time.

I would love to do it needle turn
but
 unlike Colleen Winter's FABULOUS work....

Mine looks like a child did it!!

So...
I decided to try it with a new technique
 we learned in Minot
by

Step one...

Photocopy the pattern

Step 2

Center on the back of your background piece of fabric and pin

Step 3
It's kind of like paper piecing....sort of.

Place desired fabric on the front where placement needs to be...

then flip and stitch on the back side following what you are out lining.

This was a part of the wreath...

Trim close to stitching...

This pattern is excellent as it's like paint by number
and
indicates what is next...

Just continue the process...

Building your picture..

For the sunflower,

I used one piece for underneath
and
one piece one top rather that each petal.

One thing I may do differently is to use invisible thread on the next one.

This worked up in 3 hours!!

One 6" farmer's block took me the same time!!!

Some people are geniuses!!

When I am done all the blocks,

I will satin stitch all at the same time.

Legs, berries and eyes will be later.

If you desire the exact layout be sure to reverse your copy

It didn't matter to me if the crow was looking east or west!!
One down...11 to go!!

Baltimore is a Bust

Thank you to Maryann for this cute cat treat tin.

It will definitely be a great home for some of these!!

You know...for those times you just need a little sustenance while sewing!!

I have been giving my hand a try...

and I do mean TRY at needle turning this....

The transferring went well...

but when it came to actually attaching the pieces?

I give up!!

I suck at small pieces.

It is supposed to be leaves, corn and a pomegranite.

It looks more like someone got sick!!

I think there is a reason this pattern if offered as a laser cut/fusible backed kit.

On to PLAN B!!

Boxing Day...Who Knew?

......is traditionally the day following Christmas day,
when servants would receive gifts from their superiors.

This is an Canadian tradition like Black Friday is for the Americans!!

And...since I don't have any 'peeps'....

I always thought it was the day you cleaned up all the boxes from the gifts!
(and maybe read the manuals.....)

That's my plan for the day anyways!!

Isn't this appropriate? Our last name in farm parts??

This is the true test of taking 'junk' to make art!!
'M A R C O T T E '
from Frame the Alphabet

This was one of Justin's gifts.

It is a post office box from North Gate Post Office.

Here is more history on Northgate,Saskatchewan.

The front was made into a piggy bank with wood from a house in the area built in 1906.

It was made by Dennis Gervais of Weyburn,Saskatchewan.

The combination was made to be Justin's initials.

The D C stands for the Dominion of Canada(circa.1886)... that's how old these are!!

When was that last time you saw 'Made in Canada'?

Another soon to be 'history' is the penny that is embedded in the bottom.

Too cool.

I knew we hit the mark when Justin said he almost bought one this week!!

As usual...my gifts ranged the gammet....

From a new cattle squeeze chute which I have been resisting to purchase....

to an extension table for my sewing machine...

Too spoiled as always!!

And then there is that Grandma 'Claus....

Spoiled me with the new Balitmore Autumn patterns!!

This is going to be an adventure!!

It is going to require a little Starbucks and some research!!

The kettles whistling....

Colleen's needle turn applique is amazing!!

Colleen Winter's INCREDIBLE Baltimore Christmas
(by Colleen Winter)

"It was a thirteen month block of the month, Baltimore Christmas published by P3 Designs  from Cheryl's Quilt Corner. I requested the last three months in September so I could finish it before Christmas and while I could get Terry Whitman to quilt it.

Terry really did make it shine totally!!!!
I worked on it for almost twelve months.

One block a month is enough with that kind of work.

I haven't decided what is happening to it but a certain long arm quilter(namely Terry) did say she would certainly like it if I ever decided to sell it..LOL.

P3 Designs have four of these types of patterns currently.
I am hoping Santa brings me the Baltimore Autumn pattern which is the latest one out.

Needle turn is a peaceful pass time with wonderful results. I became interested in it through two of our former guild members, Rose Seale and Kay Scraper. They did beautiful hand work and totally inspired me. I am mainly self taught through reading books but they did give me pointers years ago when I first fell in love with the technique."
Thanks for sharing, Colleen !!

If you are still looking for some more inspiration, just click on over to The Block Party Quilt Guild as Tracey has posted a fresh batch of last week's quilting!

Only 18 more days!!
Off to guild today...isn't winter great?
