Cherrywood Challenge 2025

Once again, Cherrywood Fabrics lures me in....

I was going fishing!

They KNOW my favorite color is blue.

But the ABYSS??? Oh my....

Now that was going to be a challenge!!

This is my 8th time entering the Challenge.

7 out of 8 years, my entry has made the cut!!

So where did I begin for this one??

I started watching David Attenborough's documentary

From there,

it was just a matter of narrowing it down to what I wanted to attempt.

Ok...let's try the Black Sea Devil...

LOL...I know...crazy, right??!?

It's only time.

 I love that it's only 20" x 20"
 so
not like it's a huge investment

Misty Fuse and parchment paper was my first tools of the trade

I found a pic on the internet and started to recreate it in fabrics.

Layer by layer....

Again, my husband thought I lost my mind as he watched the progress.

I was not sure I hadn't...

This year, a floss collection by Aurifil was offered to enhance your quilt.

I have never tried couching(?) but I knew this was going to be too thick to hand stitch.

So I tiny zigzagged the floss on to the fins

I was actually surprised how much I was liking the results.

I used invisible thread by Aurifil to couch these threads in place.

I added Susie's Magic Binding to finish it off.

I think the little flange binding just adds a little extra to it.

This was my submission for Abyss.

I was totally shocked when Anne Wiens of Sweetgrass Designs congratulated me on making the list!

How cool is that!

So it's off to be shown around the Quilt circuit!

Hope I can catch a viewing some where!
