A Whole Lot of Gridding Going On

 

I think we are ready....Bring on the cement!!

I spent the day tying rebar...

 

Much like tying a quilt and just as hard on the fingertips!

 

 

This is going to look amazing in 'grey'!!

 

Justin and I resurrected with this vintage JD 11 sickle mower

 

Not sure what year it is but it's got to be 40 or 50 years old

 

This is how they used to cut hay...7' at a time!!

 

I thought 18' was too small!!!

 

 

It's a little newer than this one.. but not by much!!

 

The only thing that has changed is the horsepower pulling it!!

 

 

Then it was off for a fast trip to Minot, ND.....

 

I'll take the 2 1/2 hour drive for the rest from working!!

 

The only stops in Minot were John Deere and Menards....

 

But the real excitement started on the way home....

Friends texted saying that we were getting a storm at home...

 



 

We were greeted with some scary clouds on our way back!!

 

A Louisiana man at this gas station stated how he hadn't had this many storms back home!

 

The clouds were screaming 'We aren't in Kansas anymore'

 

There were no warnings of tornados but I think this one was close!!

I think it's time for some sunshine and summer time!!

 Minot,ND had to be put off till Worldwide Quilt Day!!

Look at that dog...sneaks into EVERY SINGLE picture!!

Stop One:

Quick visit with the Wednesday Girls who were having a sewing day.

Gave a quick lesson on how to comment on blogs,

and

a snapshot of Colleen Winter's Baltimore Autumn Block 1

Completely needle turned..even the little berries!!

Incredible!!!

This was my first attempt at block one... and for sure my last with this project!!

I will be using Heat and Bond!!

Stop 2:

 Minot Quilt Show ~ What a Hoot!

It was really hard to get good pictures with poor lighting

and

 the exhibits hanging so close together.

Best of Show

The stitching was amazing...

Daisies and pebbles...

Sawtooth...FREEHAND!!

I noticed the trend was super heavy quilting on most of the quilts.

I thought Tracey Holzer would have admired this Star!!

This was "Ted's Coffin Liner"....

Cross Stitch and Quilting

It was a wedding gift from her mother-in-law and took her 36 years to complete.

Her husband joked he'ld never see it done 

and

it would probably line his coffin someday!!

This little piece was thread painted flowers

  The detail was fabulous...Justin pointed this one out to me!!

There was an exhibit of mini quilts which perked my interest

since Tracey Holzer and I are participating

 in The Quilt Gallery's 'Dreaming of Spring' Exchange

These were works of art....

How cute is this?

Pat Speth was their Trunk Show Quilter.

She had a showing of Nickle Quilts.

There was a flea market...

which the only thing I sadly left behind was this mini Singer.

There were 12 vendors which I reserved myself to just a couple of purchases

I think I know a little bambino on the way that needs a farm inspired quilt!!

Oink~A~Doodle~Moo...how cute!!

KAYAKS!!

Goes perfectly with Justin's shoes!!

Any of my friends will attest

to the fact that a quilting excursion(or any for that matter) with me

WILL

take you down paths you did not expect!!!

You are My Sunshine...

I was singing that tune yesterday!

Don't get me wrong..

.Frost is gorgeous

But my internal SOLAR charged batteries are running low!!

The sun was shining

and

I had the pleasure of a road trip with some great quilting friends

 to Minot, North Dakota.

Our first stop was lunch to energize for the full day!!

This painted horse was outside the restaurant.

The horse is beautiful but look at that BLUE sky!!

There are a couple of painted horses around Minot.

Amazing artistry!

Our first stop was Prairie Rose Quilt Shop.

We helped Irene Roy stock up on some much needed fabric.

OK...OK...

maybe we also bought a swatch here and there....

I am sure that 'need' and 'want' have the same definition in the quilter's handbook.

Really...

You WANT that fabric right now...

so we buy it for the day we will NEED it!! 

It's just a timeline technicality.

Just go with that!!

There was lots of inspiration for the upcoming seasons

I have always loved Carmen's cutting counter!

Can't you see this in your local general store way back when??

Next stop was Bernina where Colleen Marcotte and I must have wished upon this star..

We found fabric we needed and thought we would never see again!!

It was such a good day!!

With a quick stop at Joanne's, The Vac/Sew store and Maggie's Stain Glass

where this mosaic cow head was hanging,

we were on our way home!!

We made mighty good use of time considering we were 6 quilters!

It was a really nice day.

Now that we are stocked up for awhile, it's time to settle in and get ready for calving.

These heifers are the first candidates.

They think they are in the corral for spa treatment.

Boy, aren't they in for a shock!!
