Bali....part 3

Bali is one of the many islands in Indonesia.

It is 5780km square and has over 4M poeple
(and 3M scooters)

All of Indonesia has 250M Peeps!!

For perspective....

Saskatchewan is 651,900 square
with
1M people!!!

There were very few spots of my kind of peace and quiet.

Lunch up in the clouds at the top of the volcano was one spot!!

Crops like rice.flowers and fruit grown all year long

There are fruit stands all along the drives

Sudiana stopped at this one to purchase some oranges for us.
 ,.

Some of the temples required shoulders to be covered while others needed covered legs

How cute is our blessed Charlene with her sarong

One temple had a pool with stations for each thing you wanted to be blessed for.

Every temple was a busy place

Look at the size of these Koi

Bigger then my foot!!!

We took a cooking class on Indonesian food.

Seems like a strange thing to do but it really helped us understand what we were eating.

The day started with a tour through a local market

It definitely made me a vegetarian for the weeks we were there

There is no refrigeration so food is purchased daily.

Yup..that chicken is just sitting out!!!

Very blue fish....

Got to be honest...

I was pretty sure I was not going to be eating this food
after
all this shock treatment!!

We went to a nearby hotel for cooking lessons

by Anika

Every dish started with garlic, peppers, shallots, hot chilis and lemongrass.

We chopped, minced, and ground up the ingredients for the dishes

In the end, our dishes looked amazing....

It turned out to be a great way to get to know the science behind their food

We had quite the feast
 of
nasi goreng, chicken and beef sate, pickled vegetables and bean salad

Dessert was black rice pudding and green pancakes with coconut stuffing

SOME of my meat may have gone to feed the needy....

How can you say no to a kitten??

We were given certificates
 but
if I ever invite you over for Balinese......

have a snack before you come!

Even the ashtrays are made to be beautiful.....
