Sapphire Celebrations for International Quilt Festival

In 2016,
I attended a luncheon at Houston international Quilt Festival.

The guest speaker was Karen Nyberg.

She was the astronaut who quilted in space.

The tables were covered in fabric for table cloths
And
The napkins were 10” layer cake pieces.

I was the lucky winner of the table cloth and napkins.

You can read about it HERE

I have been trying to think of what special projects should make with them.

This line of fabrics were Blue Barn by Laundry Basket Quilts

Aka...Edyta Star!

This year at at luncheon in Houston they mentioned they were looking for blue and white quilts
To
Help commemorate their Sapphire year of Festival.

I knew right there and then....

What I was going to to do with my special stash!!

I love cathedral window blocks....

And

Offset flying geese....

Terry Whitman made this quilt sing!

Her custom longarming skills are stellar.

Other quilters see her work and ask me what kind of computerized machine she has.

This work is all her own creation.

She can always bring a quilt to life!

I decided to enter it for the Sapphire Celebration!

If it is chosen...fabulous!

If not,
I have a beautiful memory quilt
with a great story
of
time spent with friends at a fun luncheon!

‘Blue Birds Amongst the Stars’

I will let you know either way!

Good Bye Houston

We had a lot of Mexican this week

But it goes really well with margaritas

We celebrated our last night with some chorizos

Marry Ann managed to get a pic with none other than Jenny Doan

Miss Missouri Star!!!

This one is for Shelby...

She sent me a pic last winter from Road to California
of
award winning Quilt

It was my turn to admire it here in Houston
Stunning!!!

The Cherrywood Chalkenge really intrigued me

2017 is going to be blue.

The theme is Van Gough

I may have to do that one!!

Susan Carlson had such interesting results with her collages

This crocodile was 20 feet long

Pictures don't do it justice

 Using Kaffe Fassett fabric ,
She did an incredible job on this rhino

I can see Irene Roy making this!!

I loved theses Millifiora quilts

They reminds me of Italian mosaic tiles

I may have to do a small one

There were so many fabulous quilts

I can't begin to show them all

We are on our way home today

It was a great week...

Great Freinds...both old and new ones

Super teachers and classes

Inspiration beyond my imagination

Now to get home and unpack!!

Coming Home

We were gone for 7 days but it felt like 4...

We challenged our suitcases maxing them out at 50lbs
and
carrying the rest!!

Some things just wouldn't fit in our luggage...

There were so many more thing we wanted to buy....

Teasing us at every bend

I needed another hobby like a hole in the head.....

But I could not resist.....

And as if Market and Festival was not enough

we toured to local Stores!!

This vintage quilt was calling my name...

I had the kit in my hands 100 times...

But in the end I settled for the book and pattern!!

In Galveston, Tx we went to the seawall....

It was all we could do not to stay there for the day!!

Terry and Sharon waded into the surf....

Took a moment to write in the sand....

We ate like stuffed turkeys....

At Festival Hill I loved this saying...

Why  Dream Ordinary

cvr cotidiana somnies - why dream ordinary

 Festival Hill at Roundtop

 was a work of art

 having been built in 1981

A modern day treasure!!

After the hurricanes, many big old trees were damaged

This dog was a tree at one time!!

but

The tinman

some talented people carved them into works of art...

A geisha girl

Dolphins and mermaids

The houses in Galveston were so beautiful...

Bishop's palace....

Fit for a king

I think we need to go back and tour these homes!!

The Catholic Church

The oldest house in Galveston...

Great verandas....

Row Houses....

'

I felt like we were in New Orleans!!
