Forest Fables by Esther Fallon Lau for Figo
Haven't the skies been incredible lately?
I can't believe the weather we have had either.
Sure makes the winter a lot shorter...
But so does going to Arizona for a few months!! lol
I recently made a quilt using this wideback
by
Westrade called Moonscapes
I used it as background for the front
as
a wide back(108"x108") will yield 9 yards of fabric!
You might this it is too mottled
but
it really adds an interesting element to it.
I used Eclectic Elements by Tim Holts
The pattern is called Brilliant by Taralee Quiltery in Manitoba.
It was a pattern I tested for her last year.
You can find that pattern HERE
My next project with that backing was this one!
I am loving this new line of fabric
called
Forest Fables by Esther Fallon Lau for FIGO Fabrics.
I love the tweedy look of the prints
AND
you guessed it....
It's BLUES AND BROWNS!
My aunt was working on a quilt called the Framed Inverted Star Quilt.
That free pattern can be found HERE
I thought the combination of this wideback
and
this FQ bundle would be perfect together!
I also really enjoyed using my new Blocloc Rulers
for
squaring up my HST's
I have sold them for awhile now but never got myself a set.
So many new quilters were purchasing them,
I decided I deserved a set!
They were right!
Made quick work of that task!
I quilted it myself.
Nothing crazy....
I put a scrappy piano key border on the outside to just shake it up a bit!
This was a fun quilt to make!
Love how it turned out!
You can find these fabrics and rulers
on
my website if you would like some for yourself!

Prairie Lithium First Drill
Not sure if you have heard
but
there has been some exploration for Lithium going on in Saskatchewan.
In fact, right across the road from our house.
They asked for a windsock to fly at their maiden drill
(that's my other job....making windsocks for oil companies)
It's all kind of ironic that the drill would be right here.
We just purchased a set of electric bikes!
These are DJ Foldable bikes so we can take them south with us this winter!
We have been loving them!
You can really make miles with these fat tire bikes
and
have been a lot of fun when we have gone camping.
It will be interesting to see where this Lithium drilling ends up going.
They speculate to drill 100 wells!
Hopefully not all around us!

Old Fashioned Barn Raising
Well...It's actually more like a New Fashioned Barn Raising!
Justin's barn has seen better days that's for sure!
This barn used to be in Torquay. Saskatchewan
as
the livery.
We think it was moved in the early 50's
as
Justin's farm picture has the barn in 1954.
After the storm in January,
the barn was blown off it's foundation.
A couple more storms
and
this barn will be history like so many others that went down in that storm.
There is so much history on Justin's farm.
This was the 'old' Joel Salte Farm.
The daughter, Joleen had carved her name in the cement
Justin had been planning how he was going to fix his barn for a few years now.
His friend, Eric comes from a great construction family.
Eric's Dad had built all the foundations for our barns in the 80's.
So the Vandenhurks began the feat of saving this relic!
They brought every piece of heavy machinery you can think of...
Put beams through the barn....
ready to be jacked up...
New footings are poured...
New metal walls were welded to take place of the old walls.
Before you know it,
they had this barn looking like it was standing on toothpicks!
The red metal is on it's way
and
framing has begun to prepare for the shiny new walls.
It's cleaning up very well!
Justin says we can have a quilt show at his place when he is done!
This barn is going to need a quilt of its own...
Oh.. to narrow it down!!
