A Good Day at Quilting

If you haven't checked out the free tutorials
 by
our friend, Jenny Doan of Missouri Quilt Co

Now would be a great time!!!
Jenny is a genius......

And

kind hearted enough to pose for a picture with us in Houston last year!!

I decided to try the Hunter Star

It called for 2 layer cakes

I only wanted a baby quilt so cut it down to 2 charm packs
(making it 1/4 the size)

Her technique was easy as pie!!

I used Oink a-Doodle -Moo

Even the trimmings are pretty!!

There were only 3 main blocks

and before you know it....

I had a baby quilt ready for Grand baby #2
(who is due in a couple weeks!!!)

At guild yesterday....

Terry brought some of her grandma's vintage embroidery

You just don't see hand work like these anymore

She is toying with quilting with her fabulous talents on her long arm

This is definitely a dying art...

Narrie made the CUTEST doll clothes for Christmas gifts

How sweet....

Vernelle was working on a  Bargello table top

Even the back was beautiful!!

There was a new addition to the family of Featherweights at quilting

Terry recently acquired her grandma's white singer

I think she should call her Milly after her g-ma!!

Even the box is cute!

With no room on Terry's table,

her black Featherweight went up for adoption!!

It NEARLY started a bidding war
but
in the end... went to Colleen!!
(a good home is important when it comes to adoption)

I think winter has arrived in our neck of the woods.

Let the sewing begin....

Missouri star Bear Paw Quilt

Have you checked out any tutorials on Missouri Star Quilt Co.?

Jenny Doan makes them all look so easy!!

I decided to give this Bear Paw a try!

I started with this jelly roll of Eclectic Elements.

I can't remember peoples names
but
I know I bought this in Glendive,MT TWO years ago!!
(how bad is that!!)

with some cream yardage for the background

I started it last Thursday at guild....

and another day at home the paws were done!!

I wanted to sash it with cornerstones at the intersections
but
couldn't find fabric I thought would look good

So I did the 'Baby Bears' version of this quilt...

Now for some borders!!
We also celebrated  Arnold's dad's 80th Birthday on the weekend.

Some of his favorite things...

Arnold and Anita hosted, calling themselves Roger's  'A' team
(Arnold and Anita)

They did a great job even though they BOTH were nervous!!

It was held in the senoirs center
 where
there was a sign up board for activities...

Beside that was a chalkboard of who was in the hospital....

If you didn't make those two lists,

you quite possibly could be on the Obit Board

Moral of this story...

Keep yourself active
or
it's all down hill from there!!

Where has this week gone to??

Where to Begin....Houston Quilt Festival

There is nothing like home but there is nothing like Houston either...

Four Block Party Guild members
(Terry Whitman, Christine Marcotte, Colleen Marcotte and myself)

Off to Houston...

Giddy would be putting it mildly....

With a couple of girls from Wapella and Whitewood,Sk

Sharon Armstrong, Terry Whitman, Sharon Baker, Christine Marcotte, Colleen Marcotte, Brenda Jones)

A couple of Marcottes and only ONE Jones as we joked!!
To the heart of the 3rd biggest city in USA

2.5 million people....130 miles wide!!

We teased ourselved the first day by looking through the portholes

  into

what we were going to experience the next day!!!

It was 40 years of celebration...

So red was the theme!!

Barb Vlack did a great presentation

on her version of 9 patches

in 40 different settings in red for her own Ruby anniversary!!

Incredible is a word your going to read often in these postings.

ALL the quilts were just that.....

There was an exhibit of mini quilts all in red
made
by 2 sisters, Andrea Blackhurst and Ellen Carter

They were all 24"  or less...

Pictures do not do them justice...

but gives you an idea

of how spectaculer they were!!

Look at the little blocks in each house!!

Feathered stars...

TINY pinwheels

Storm at Sea....

 I have to do one!!

The workmanship on these little master pieces were just mind blowing!!

It was a stunning exhibit...

Such a tribute to traditional quilts...

Mini Quilts continued throughout the show.....

Diamond log cabin mini...

I had to buy this little mini Feathered Star pattern!!

The Houston Miniaturists exhibited some of their sewing related little rooms...

Look at those little cutting boards and bolts of fabric!!

The Circle of Quilts were quite the awe struck greeting!!

There was color every where you looked...

This looked like Zentangles to me!!

A wedding dress...

These Horses took my breath away

I don't think I would EVER live old enough to do something this spectacular

This was a thread painted quilt....

Pictures do not do this(or any) quilt justice...

It deserved the grand prize!!
That evening I spotted Missouri Star's Jenny Doan and husband....

We promised not to bother her during supper.....

if she would take a photo with us later

She was kind enough to pull up a chair

 and

her husband took pics for us!!

They were the nicest people.

I know it was a long 2 weeks for them and she still took the time!!

Stay tuned for part 2...
