Scrap Squad Friday..Number 4!!

I managed...
(and I do mean MANAGE between haying, harvest and a garage build)

to finish my 4th quilt for the Scrap Squad for Quiltmaker Magazine!!

It is Western Waltz designed and made by Donna Benham from Omaha, Nebraska

QMMP 131000 BENHAM 400 QM Scrap Squad: Western Waltz Goes Christmas

I decided to go with a 'Christmas in July' theme

This strip called 'All a Glow Wavy Stripe' was my starting point.

Of course I could not resist to use Susie's magic binding technique

Terry Whitman worked her special magic on quilting this piece.

To see the finished product...

be sure to hop on over to Quiltmaker's Blog

Special Thanks to Terry for putting up with my stretchy quilts!!

Cutting and Stitching of a Different Kind

I haven't had time to do much sewing lately.

I started working on this squirrel on the Forest Friends QAL but he is only half done.

But still have been doing a lot of measuring and cutting......

of WOOD!

Instead of my rotory cutter.....

a skill saw...

And stitched together with the air nailer!

The person who invented this tool deserves to be a millionaire...

What a time AND arm saver!

And of course...there has been plenty of supervisors on the job!!

Even while planting the flowers.....

The walls are ready to go up but will have to wait till next week

 as I am off to....

I will try to blog from NYC but no guarantee!!

I am hoping to see the Garment District

But it is forecasted to be +34C so will have to see if we melt first!

It is sure to be amazing!!

Special thanks to Shelby Love for the cutest birthday gift.....

How adorable is this shoe!!!

Let the adventure begin.....

Scrap Squad Friday...My Turn!!

It's Friday....

and a SOGGY one at that!!

With the cement removed from the old garage, it makes for a treacherous walk out the door.

So what better reason to stay in and read some quilting blogs!!

Friday also means its another episode of Scrap Squad Reveal
QM scrap squadB3 QM Scrap Squad: Off to the Races by Christa Marcotte

This week's quilt comes to you from...

ME!!

I won't scare you with a picture of myself.

This quilt pattern is by Robin Waggoner called Mandarin Express.

My inspiration point was this car print and I was off to the races!!

The red, black and white theme was fitting...

Racing flag border and all!!!

And not a quilt goes lately by without Susie's Magic Binding!!!

Such an easy way to bind and flange at the same time!

Of course, it was quilted by my favorite longarmer, Terry Whitman.

As always, another incredible job!!

Terry doesn't have a website....YET....I really need to get her one!!

Terry's work is one of a kind and unique to each quilt.

Click HERE for a more detailed look at the making of this quilt

where it is featured on the Quiltmaker Blog today.

Got to go.....

You know that saying...

Make hay when the sun is shining,

Sew when it's raining!!!

(ok..I made it up but it's a should be one)

This Fox has been calling my name all week...

Has Anyone Seen the Sun?

The frost may be beautiful but I sure am missing the sun!!

I have always claimed to be a solar powered chick and my batteries are definitely running low!!
It was a good day to be at the church quilting yesterday
 and
dreaming the sun was shining through the stain glass windows!!

I have finished my Bonnie Hunter Mystery, Easy Street.

My two "Vanna's" holding this up said it looked like stain glass from their side.

I can not seem to get a good picture of this quilt.

The b/w fabric seem to make it blurry.

I don't think I will do a mystery quilt again as I am disappointed in the end result.

Tracey's picture of my quilt on The Block Party Blog is probably about as good as it gets!

She has some great pictures from our retreat, too.

Maybe I need some distance from this one for awhile!

I started the second project for the Quiltmaker's Scrap Squad.

I was feeling like I have recently done my share of bright/colorful quilts so I decided to use this layer cake of Kasuri for project 2.

I pumped out 160 of the 208 paper pieced blocks needed.

When I got home,

I received an email to halt the process as this was the wrong quilt for the next project!!

I guess I have a good start on this for down the road!

I didn't realize that I had been going down the path of blues and browns again anyways!

So I will think 'color' again for the next Scrap Squad quilt.

Maybe something in  yellows....make my own sun!!

Quiltmaker Scrap Squad Part 2

Scrap Squad instructions are to make a quilt using a given pattern

with material you already have making it your own.

I have had this flannel for about 5 or 6 years now.

I didn't realize how nice this flannel was.

It was so velvety and pressed wonderfully!

I usually buy fabric I love...not fabric I need for a project.

I guess I love nice fabric!

There are 2 main blocks involved in the construction of a large block.

There are endless possibilities

and this is just using one half of the main block

so it is just a matter deciding where to go with it.

It is a repetitive pattern so it makes for ease of construction.

I was going with a Southwest theme since there are horses and lots of points.

I was going to do a border like my Bounce quilt has but thought why hack the logcabin up?

Just fussy cut it!

It's cute as it is.... that's why I purchased it.

It was nip and tuck to have enough fabric for the interior of this quilt.

I had to use this wood grain cotton for the last border but I think it works.

This was a great first project for Scrap Squad.

I used to sew like this all the time...just using what I had to make something.

Lately I have been purchasing lines of fabric that go together.

I have been feeling like my creativity has dampened lately.

This brought me back to how quilting began for me

......and all the other pioneers!!!

Christa

 ps.
The big reveal(as the other QSS quilts)will be when I get back!!
This quilt as well as my puppy are off to Terry's!
